Established in 1985, Handihelps is an independent, family owned domestic agency, run by Joy Russell and Samantha Glazer. Both Joy and Samantha understand the dynamics of providing quality domestic staff to families and individuals, and in supporting international and British applicants to find excellent job opportunities.

Handihelps is well equipped to cope with the all the changes and events that life throws at you - from cleaner to housekeeper, nanny to mothers' help, au pair to carer. Whatever your life circumstances, we will always listen to your individual needs, and advise you of the most effective, domestic solution.

Section 2: Families & Individuals

Whether you need an au pair, domestic cleaner, mothers' help, carer or other domestic service, Handihelps is available to advise on what is suitable for your unique circumstances. This is done without the need for reams of paperwork, but with sensitivity, integrity and professionalism.

Quality Staff to Meet Your Needs

LIVE-OUT STAFF

Handihelps has a quality database of carefully selected and screened live-out staff. Our domestic cleaners are available on a one off, or a regular basis. Reliable and fully referenced evening babysitters are available on an annual contract. All babysitters drive and have access to their own transport. Mothers' helps and nannies are also available to support you on a Live-Out basis. We specialise in the placement of live-out staff in and around the North London area, and the suburbs.

Over the past eighteen years, Handihelps has developed an unrivalled, international network of quality, partner agencies, called HandiNet. All of our live-in staff are carefully interviewed by our overseas, partner agencies, prior to our making any introduction to you. We pride ourselves on our strong, international contacts, and our ability to attract quality workers to meet your specific domestic needs.

AU PAIRS EXPLAINED

An AU PAIR wishes to experience life in a different country, living with another family.
They also want to attend school and improve their English.
They live in your home, and in return, they are an 'extra pair of hands'.
They assist with housework, laundry, ironing, and can play with and occupy children.
They are not nannies and must not be left alone with children for long periods of time.
They work a maximum of 25 hours per week and can baby-sit up to three nights.
In return for their services, they are entitled to two days off per week.
They must have their own room and be made to feel part of the family.
They receive £50 per week pocket money.
Au pairs are responsible for their own airfares and school fees.

MOTHERS' HELPS EXPLAINED

MOTHERS' HELPS wish to experience living with a family in another country.
They speak fluent English, and it is usually their mother tongue.
In most cases, they have previous, childcare experience.
They work five days per week.
They assist with housework and childcare.
Depending on their experience, they are able to have sole charge of children.
They receive a minimum of £160 per week pocket money.
They are responsible for their own airfares.
Handihelps specialises in the placement of South African mothers' helps.

Section 3: Looking for a Family


As your agency in the UK, we are here to assist you once you have arrived in the country. We will do our best to make your time in England a positive experience, and will put you in touch with other, like-minded au pairs or friends near to where you will be living. Of course, we are also available to help you with any questions or issues that may arise during your trip.


Many of the families we work with return to us year after year, and we will help ensure that your needs are met, at your perfect family during the duration of your stay in the UK.


Whilst in the UK, you should take advantage of visiting the country's most popular sites and attractions, such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Madame Tussauds and The London Eye!


Au Pairs


If you are aged 18-27, with no children, you may be eligible to be an au pair.
You must be willing to live with a family, assist with household duties and babysitting.
You will work a minimum of 25 hours per week.
You will have your own room and will receive £50 per week pocket money.
There will be plenty of time to attend school and improve your English.
There will be no cost to you, except your travel to the UK and your school fees.
Your host family will help find the right school for you.


Hungarian Au Pair placed with Hertfordshire Family:
I had a great experience in England. When I arrived in the UK my English was poor, but my host family found me a good school and really looked after me. Handihelps gave me a list of friends to call and were there to answer any questions I had at each stage of my stay. I really recommend being an au pair.


Mothers' Help


If you are aged 20 or older, you may be eligible to be a mothers' help.
English must be mother tongue or fluent.
You will have previous childcare experience and a flexible attitude to work.
You will be required to work five days a week.
You will be required to assist with light housework and childcare.
If you can drive, this will be a big advantage.
You will receive a minimum of £160 per week.
There will be no cost to you, except your travel to the UK.


South African Mothers' Help placed with North London Family:


I already had three years of childcare experience working in Johannesburg, South Africa, but I wanted to broaden my experience by living and working in England. Now, after just nine months, I am on the way to achieving these goals. Not only am I part of a closely-knit family, where I have developed some strong relationships with the two young children, but I have also experienced some great times in England, and made some life-long friends.
